The short version
In local mode your audio never leaves your device, so most of this policy is about parts you have to switch on first. You can verify all of it in the source rather than believing this page.
Who we are
OpenSTT is an open source project maintained by Sarthak Chahal. Reach us at privacy@openstt.xyz. The registered entity and address will be published here once there is one, rather than listing something that is not true yet.
Audio and transcripts
Local mode, the default. Audio is captured, transcribed and discarded in a process on your machine. It is never written to our servers because it never leaves the device. There is no setting to get this wrong.
Hosted mode, if you enable it. Audio is sent over TLS, transcribed, and deleted as soon as the transcript is returned. Not retained, not logged, not used for training. It is off until you turn it on, per profile.
We do not train on your content
Not audio, not transcripts, not the corrections you make to your dictionary. The repository is public, so this is a claim you can check rather than one you have to accept.
Account data
You do not need an account to dictate. Paid plans, when they exist, will need an email address and a billing record held by a payment processor. We will not store card details.
Telemetry
The app can send crash traces and a version number, and you can turn that off in settings. Crash reports never contain audio, transcript text or dictionary entries.
Website analytics
Aggregate page views and referrers. No advertising pixels, no cross-site tracking, and no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.
Recording other people
Meeting notes can transcribe a conversation with more than one person in it. Consent law differs by country and by state, and it is your responsibility where you are. The app will not make that judgement for you.
Your rights
Email privacy@openstt.xyz to see, export or delete account data. We reply within 30 days. In local mode there is usually nothing for us to return, which is the intended outcome.
Changes
Policy changes land in the repository first, so the diff is public before the page is updated.
